I disappeared from the running planet for a few weeks... why... well because I wasn't running. My 30 day challenge ended on day 8, which was my best day. It was my only 5km under 35 minutes and I felt I was breaking through the barrier and getting back to some shape. Then day 9 I wake up with a fever and aches and pains all over. After much deliberation I decided that a break was needed and I didn't go for a run on day 9.
I didn't intend for the break to be so long but I got lazy. Time to break the bad cycle again and hit the road so I went for a lovely, slow 3.5km last night and am aiming for the same tonight.
This has been a poor year for me running wise, especially compared to last year when I was recovering this week after the Dublin City Marathon. I miss the feeling you get after a nice half marathon and the knowledge that you can go out and run for 3 hours or so. Right now I'd struggle to run for 30 minutes. Luckily it is never too late to put on those runners and start all over again. It may be a little disheartening at first when you see where you were and where you are and it will take a bit of mental adjustment but I got to the level of running a marathon once... I can get there again.
